Renown journalist and storyteller Dorcas Wangira, drawing from years of experience in telling African stories will facilitate a workshop intended to equip young media practitioners, journalists and communication professionals with skills on how to craft representative, authentic and balanced African stories.

About the Facilitator

Dorcas Wangira is an early career journalist passionate about science and human interest features. She is an Africa Health Correspondent working with the BBC. She has previously worked as a Special Projects reporter and news correspondent for Citizen TV , Kenya’s leading TV Station and KTN NEWS, Kenya’s only 24-hour news network.

She believes in the power of the human spirit and in amplifying the voices of those often left behind and at the fringes of society. She produced Your Story, a weekly segment that aired every Sunday on Citizen TV 9pm Prime Time News. Her work explores social and science issues.

Dorcas is a 2023 Media Council of Kenya, Annual Journalism Excellence Award(AJEA) Podcast of the Year Award.  2021 Falling Walls Journalism Fellow and Winner of the 2021 Isu Elihle Award, the 2021 MERCK Mask Up Award and 2020 MERCK Stay at Home Multimedia Award (Eastern African Countries), the 2019 AJEA ICT T.V. Reporting Award, the 2019 MERCK More Than A Mother Multimedia Award (Eastern Africa) and the 2019 Michael Elliott Award for Excellence in African Storytelling. In 2017 she won the Zimeo 2017 Award for Climate Change and Conservation Reporting. For her work, she has also been nominated for the 2018 Upstream Oil and Gas Journalist of the Year Award and has also been shortlisted for the UK Foreign Press 2017 Young Journalist Award.In  2015, she won the Mohamed Amin Africa Media Award People’s Choice Award.
